An Outdoor Classroom and other things

Problem
It all started with the Vice Principal wanting to build an outdoor classroom, but with the usual problem of no budget, and the added condition that its location may not be permanent.

Solution
It had to be a circle – a circle of circles (recycled locally sourced tyres), some high, some low, all planted (with donations from parents' gardens) a bed of mulch inside it with tree stumps (from All About Trees tree surgeons who were working in the locality) as seats – the hay bales may have been problematic – and within a week it was up and running.

Result
The children built it – from setting out the circle with a skipping rope; to moving and stacking the tyres; to filling in the topsoil; to planting. And a vacant unused part of the school was brought to life.
A booking sheet was set up in the staff room and there was a destination, a place to go to do skip counting or release butterflies grown in class...
