Inside and Out

Problem
This large house had a completely cobble locked rear garden which was crying out for
some colour and softness. The family wondered whether to extend the kitchen to improve
the ammenity of the already large enough house.

Solution
Insideout's solution was to concentrate on the external space by adding a lawn and
lots of planting which could be installed in stages to create a pleasanter more useable space.
The straight lines reflect the orthogonal nature of the house. Internally the utility room was
made larger, the dividing wall between the rarely used dining room and kitchen was knocked
through and the layout of the kitchen extended and improved.

Result
Rather than embarking on a costly building project for a house that actually had more than
enough space already, simply reconfiguring and investing in a new kitchen leaving funds to concentrate
on the garden will enormously improve the use this growing family gets out of their main space.
